Jacob C. Shade
Allegany County Commissioner
President of the Board of County Commissioners

Jacob C. “Jake” Shade, a native of Cumberland, was elected to the Office of Allegany County Commissioner in 2014 for a four year term. This is the first time Commissioner Shade has served in public office. He is the President of the Board of County Commissioners.


Commissioner Shade earned a Master of Technology Entrepreneurship from the University of Maryland in 2015. He also earned his undergraduate degree, a B.A. in Government and Politics, from the University of Maryland in 2013. Commissioner Shade is currently enrolled in the Academy for Excellence in Local Governance, a professional development program associated with the University of Maryland School of Public Policy.


Commissioner Shade works in the insurance industry in Cumberland and formerly served in the Maryland General Assembly as a Legislative Director.


During this term of office Commissioner Shade and his fellow County Commissioners serve on the Allegany County Board of Health and are members of the Cumberland Allegany County Industrial Foundation, Inc. (CACIF). Commissioner Shade attends meetings of the Allegany County Board of Education and is on the Tri-County Council for Western Maryland, Inc. Board of Directors. He serves on the Allegany County Mental Health Advisory Board, the Allegany County Task Force on Child Abuse and Neglect, and the Allegany County Social Services Board of Directors.


Commissioner Shade is a member of Queen City AF & AM Masonic Lodge #131 and The Winston Churchill Centre. He is a former member of the Allegany County Republican Central Committee. Commissioner Shade resides in Cumberland.
